火树银花: 继续50年的璀璨与繁华

The past 50 years is has undoubtedly been spectacular. Singapore has rocketed from 3rd world to 1st. But according to the 20-80 rule, a huge 80% of the effort will be needed to sustain our growth from where we are right now. This effort will have to come from a new generation.. brought up in comfort and complacence. Do we have what it takes to carry on?

(Technical details and more photos after the break..)

Been a long time ever since I did a serious landscape-ish photo shoot.. and even longer since I last did fireworks. One of the main reasons is the very long wait (~4 hours?) in order to secure a prime spot.. something most graduate students cannot afford. But thanks to the 4 day jubilee weekend, and a lot of procrastination, I went to do 2 shoots - 1 is a practice shoot on 8th Aug, followed by the actual day.

iso200 f/11 + ND8. Still overexposed

Fireworks are very bright, and it is very difficult not to over-expose. This is further complicated by the high chance of overlapping blooms, further blowing the image to oblivion. Even at base ISO and f/22, overexposure is unavoidable. I was lucky enough to have brought along an ND8 filter to further cut down the light. So yea, f/22 + ND8. This combination can sustain 3-4 overlapping blooms without overexposing too much.

Another cool feature also aided my shoot tremendously - Live Time. One gets to see the exposure build up over time (now with live histogram on the EM10!), so I can observe the blooms that were captured without ending the long exposure. The downside is the significant lag (about 1 sec) between shots, even with dark-frame noise reduction disabled.

Ok you probably guessed it by now, the reflection on the first image was photoshopped =P.
